Aligning Your Focus!

I was reading through half of 2 Samuel last night using my Chronological Study Bible along with some Psalm and 1 Chronicles mixed with 2 Samuel. Here is what I found that profoundly impressed me and now I so love Asahel!

2 Samuel 2: 18-23:

18 The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai and Asahel. Now Asahel was as fleet-footed as a wild gazelle. 19 He chased Abner, turning neither to the right nor to the left as he pursued him. 20 Abner looked behind him and asked, "Is that you, Asahel?"
"It is," he answered.
21 Then Abner said to him, "Turn aside to the right or to the left; take on one of the young men and strip him of his weapons." But Asahel would not stop chasing him.
22 Again Abner warned Asahel, "Stop chasing me! Why should I strike you down? How could I look your brother Joab in the face?"
23 But Asahel refused to give up the pursuit; so Abner thrust the butt of his spear into Asahel's stomach, and the spear came out through his back. He fell there and died on the spot. And every man stopped when he came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died.

Here is what I love most about him... is that he abides by Isaiah 30:21, "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it."... he didn't turn to either left or right for security. He kept his focus onto Abner, onto victory! That's who we should be like! Yeah Asahel died, but he didn't die in vain. He died with dignity because he didn't go neither right nor left.

As we know, Peter lost his focus when he turned his head to what is around him and saw that he is in danger and indeed he is because he had lost his focus! So Jesus had to pull him out of water and say, "You of little faith!". Do we want to lost our focus like Peter due to the circumstance around us? Or do we want to be like Asahel who kept his focus no matter what circumstance come in front of him and let Him be the Judge? Tough call!

New Year Day at Washington Mall

I decided to take a walk to the Monument to stay there to see the sunrise appear for a new dawning, a new beginning for 2010! I arrived this spot at around 5:15am. I am walking back and forth making an observant around here as I type this blog via my pager.

I think that its amazing how the lights keep shining upon the Monument overnight and how it is surrounded by USA flags in circle. I can also see the capitol and Abraham Lincoln Memorial from here and they are both bright!...

Here are my thoughts... since I know that Laus Dio means "Glory to God", and it is somewhere at the top or so. And it is surrounded by USA flags... its as if it was established to point to His Glory by its sharp point at the top that looks like a pyramid... to show that He is in the center of America's, and in fact He is and should always be!

My other thoughts... both the Capitol and Lincoln are at the same distance away from the Monument... it is as if His Glory is in the center of this country and in the center of His people in this country. The Capitol was one of the first mega church where 2,000 people was in attendance! Also where the strong leaders make their votes after praying in the prayer room to ask Him to be with them as they vote! As for Abraham Lincoln, it shows that God may make a difference through one person, one leader if we trust and allow Him to do so! Also it reminds us of the unity, as the oneness in His sight as the justice was brought into this country! I'm going to stop right here because there are a lot of different interpretation of this landscape! Glory be to God as the dawning appear today to start the year of 2010! =)

Happy New Year!
