David began to inquire the men around him, "What shall be done for the man who kills the Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel?" David was merely trying to solve the problem with his question.
His eldest brother felt offended. In his anger, he said, "Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle." Wow David's own brother even bothered to count his sheep and considered it as "few worthless sheep". I don't know about the "wilderness". But I am certainly that his brother exaggerated about David's duty. Or maybe he doesn't understand his duty for he is an army not a shepherd.
Nevertheless David continued to speak in the same way. The men responded in the same way, but the words were repeated among them. They somehow got their way to the king, Saul. So he called for David. They discussed about David's experiences. David mentioned all about how the Lord has helped him. Not his army experiences, but his shepherd experiences when the Lord was his "army". Then Saul said, "Go, and the Lord be with you!"
David ignored his brother's remark about his own resume and continued with the Lord's resume as he kept his integrity. So be it!
Ignore the seen and continue with the unseen.
